About Us

Meraki is a modern Greek word that loosely translates into "doing something with attention, passion and devotion - in a way that you leave a bit of yourself in all that you do." This word and its essence immediately touched us while we were looking for a name and identity to encapsulate all that we do. For, art to us is a part of our soul itself.
So, what exactly do we do at Meraki? Well, a lot of things, because everything about art excites us.
We are an art gallery - we create and display fine art pieces across various mediums, for discerning art lovers to add to their collection. We also undertake commissioned work for homes and commercial establishments.
We are an art school - we personally teach various art forms to anyone with a passion to learn.
We are an art institute - through our collaborations with artists across India and Pracheen Kala Kendra (a fine arts school affiliated to the Chandigarh University), we offer degree and diploma courses in fine art.
If you share this fervour for art and want to explore the wonderful world of colours and textures with us, we'd love to talk to you.

Founder Message - Sharada

Sharada loves, lives and breathes art. In her idea of a perfect world, everyone would either be creating, teaching or learning art. She confesses to being a late bloomer, in that she started to learn after her daughter was born. But in the decade and a half since then, she has crammed so much art into her life that it almost seems like she has been doing it all her life. Over the years she has taught thousands of students, but her thirst for learning has not diminished; on the contrary, she continually strives to learn newer art forms from master artists from all over India. Her repertoire of art forms is almost endless. Broadly, she dabbles in painting on all mediums, sculpture, murals and jewellery making. A more exhaustive portfolio of all that she creates and teaches is displayed in the "gallery" section.
As a teacher, she wholly subscribes to WB Yeats’ quote "education is not the filling of a pail; it is the lighting of a fire." She kindles the spark of learning in her students and then supports them as they go on to build a raging fire. She takes utmost pride in her students' achievements and often gives deserving ones a chance to teach at Meraki School of Art.
Sharada puts her ‘art’ and soul into running Meraki. And the result is there for everyone to see - from the stunning art pieces that dot the gallery to a small army of her students. All of which stems from her undying love for art.

Founder Message - Sudha

Sudha believes that painting has life of it's own and art is the novel way to express one’s creativity. Though Sudha has completed master’s degree in computer application her educational background couldn’t stop her from pursuing her passion for art. She picked up the brush much after her masters, but her interest was much evident from her inclination towards learning various art forms including sculptures and painting.
Since coming to Bangalore she seriously started pursuing her interest and her ever willing attitude to learn new things has exposed her to various art forms. She attended many art workshops with various artists and worked in Watercolor, Graphite, Charcoal, Oil pastels, Color pencils, Acrylic Painting, Oil Painting, Punch Craft Work, Mural work, Tanjore and Pichwai painting. Although she has taught many students, she is not wasting any opportunity to learn new things. Now Sudha is pursuing Senior Diploma Course in Fine Art Painting.
With the encouragement from near and dear ones she started taking classes at home. What started as humble beginning has flourished into Meraki School of art. Along with Sharada they have created a wonderful place for art lovers. It’s a place where people create bond with art which lasts forever. The result of this can be seen on the wall of Meraki gallery and from the impression it has left on the heart of students. What brought her closer to this wonderful world of colors is her burning desire and she constantly encourages the students to soak their hands and see the wonders it brings to their life.
